Gear4music 3/4 LA Electric Guitar

Quick shipment and very well packed. Guitar looks great, a bit darker than on the site though. Sound is good too. Comes with a usable gig bag which is not too flimsy. No noticable imperfections.

Guitar was playable out of the box, no rattle, intonation was ok. Action is quite high though and the string gauge is too thin. Tuning pegs are too loose and tremolo springs resonate too much. Neck is unfinished and for this type of guitar this is not very practical as…

Harley Benton PowerPlant

This is all about this unit: <https://www.thomann.de/intl/harley_benton_powerplant.htm>

If you're planning to buy it, don't! Get the ISO-1 Pro, ISO-2 Pro or the Junior one as those have isolated outputs. The blue PowerPlant doesn't. And the blue unit provides less than 9v at its outputs. Fortunately that can be improved, that's what this mod does. Bear in mind that you will void your warranty with this mod.

The Dutch amps from the 1970's. Marshalls were quite expensive around that time so a Dutch company started offering an alternative. The DEA series are basically Marshall Plexi's with a power stage apparently straight from the Philips EL-34 manual. With some minor modifications you can get them much closer to the original. Bear in mind though that Plexi's work with higher voltages than the DEA's (±560V for an EL34 equipped Plexi vs ±435V for a DEA) but considering someone like Van Ha…

A tube amplifier chassis contains lethal high voltage, even when unplugged! If you have little or no experience or feel unconfident working with high voltages then have an amp technician check your amp.
Power City

A rebranded London City. This one was a steal and since I didn't have one yet I just got it, also to revise it and make it look good again. When I bought it it was covered with brown imitation leather glued on the original tolex. Immediately ripped it off. Also the mains and standby switches differed so I replaced those with identical Carlings. Same for the knobs, it has two different sets of knobs, replaced those too with six matching specimens. When it comes to the inside, this amp…

Vox AC30

Vox AC30/6 TB from 1993, so an early Korg era model. It was sounding distorted on all channels when I bought it. Replacing the output tubes did the trick. It came with a quartet of old RFC/Mullard/Philips tubes from the 1960's. In this case these old tubes didn't add any mojo, they only made the amp sound worse. A former owner had an extra preamp module installed on the amp. This was well done, looks tidy and clean but I might remove it in the future, personally I don't need an extra c…

Vox Night Train

The Vox Night Train NT15, an 18-watt EL84 powered amp head. This one belongs to my wife. It suffers from the fizzy decay issue. Did some mods but no real improvements, amp only started to sound worse so I reversed most of the mods.
